Over the last several months, IGI has been on the road participating IGI Supporter Actiance’s Executive Briefing Series. The series looks at the various communication channels (e.g. unified communications, instant messaging, social media, and voice) employees are now using in the workplace. The series discusses how, "It’s not just about email anymore!" The Executive Series explores the information governance (and specifically eDiscovery) challenges these new forms of communication present and how your organization can take steps to find and preserve enterprise communications to meet your legal, regulatory, and other obligations. Our final session is on June 29, 2016 in Atlanta, GA. Register here.

Stay tuned, here, for a compilation of highlights and insights from the entire Executive Briefing Series.

The rapid proliferation of new communications channels and their widespread adoption by end-users at organizations—many times without formal approval—can make their effective governance complex. An organization might be faced with governing not only a lot of communication channels, but a myriad of types, too. Barclay T. Blair, IGI Founder and Executive Director, who spoke in Boston during the series, notes that even financial services organizations who have been dealing with messaging compliance for many years find this new, multi-channel messaging world a challenge.

But it’s not only regulated industries or compliance alone that is driving interest in effectively addressing these new channels. Even organizations who do not have a strict regulatory requirement (e.g. brokers) are very interested in the ability of capture and govern these communications for a variety of reasons, including: a part of an overall, high quality, IG program; for HR management; investigations and e-discovery; and a valuable source of insight into the activities and processes in the organization so they can be improved. Within the IG Community, we are hearing that governance of these new forms of communications is starting to be viewed as a necessary and standard part of a high-quality IG program.
